Video with Alpha

We're exploring ways of displaying video content with alpha.

We have virtually ruled out Animation codec due to the file sizes and playback issues (we want to display multiple videos).

We have tried generating a stencil from a Ventuz chroma key which works, but it seems that the stencil function will only give us 'hard' edges.

Are there any other methods we can try?
