Playback of DV-Raw Files (.DV Format)

Post by metal_head_82 » 15 Nov 2012, 08:23

Hey there!

I was playing around with the Advanced Video Node an wondered if there's a way to play DV-RAW (.DV) files in Ventuz.
In our Video Archive all Source Files are encoded as Raw DV. So it would be the best solution to use those files instead of transcoding every video we want to use in our presentation.

I know that nearly all DV-codecs are implemented in Quicktime. But with QT-Standard Version the Advanced Movie Node gives an error message that it can't find the codec. BUT all movie properties like duration and such are displayed properly. Do I need Quicktime Pro or is there any other way to get those files playing? I just want to avoid expensive purchases of codecs for all machines we have in use.

Any Ideas on this?
Thanks in advance.

Cheers!

hi metal head

advanced movie node is not based on quicktime! it is based on ffmpg. so if a codec is not implemented by ffmpg....and additional from ventuz...you cant play it!

Hello Christian,

according to FFmpeg, DV is supported. So the codec doesn't seem to be supported by Ventuz. So we'll stick to either MPEG-4 or Motion-JPEG.
Thanks for the information anyway. I thought if FFmpeg can decode it, so can Ventuz. Is there a List of all supported Codecs?
The manual doesn't state out clearly that not all codecs supported by FFmpeg are available in Ventuz.

Cheers,
Hendrik

Hi

Ventuz does not support all codes which are implemented in ffmpeg!
We have a custom build of ffmpeg.
To get an idea which codes are supported by Ventuz and which are not open the 'About Ventuz' dialog in the Designer in the Help menu.
In the License terms is a section 'Available Input Formats'.

Cheers

Just had a look at it...
The DV-Format appears in the list. But Ventuz DOES NOT read the DV-Files I want to play.
It won't even play them in AVI or MOV container. So now I'm a little bit confused...
