Movie playback synchronization

Post by florian » 15 Feb 2015, 16:05

Hi,

According to the last version of Ventuz, it seems that movie playback synchrinsation across cluster have been enhanced
CHANGE C5559 Movie playback synchronization in a Cluster is not depended on the 'Async' property of the MovieClip node anymore. This change makes it possible to load movie asynchronously and play back on a Cluster synchronously.
After several test i still can't get it work on a very simple installation :
2 vbox, gigabit network, media file on each vbox

The master vbox get late on the slave one

Did anybody work on this problem ?
Any clue to investigate ?

Thanks !
Florian

Had a problem recently. Double checked a number of things:-

1) You need to be running VPR on both machines. Not consistently working in Designer.
2) VPR is an identical copy on each machine.
3) Correctly set up Master and Client in configuration, and Master has a lower no. than Client.
4) Screen configuration is identical. I was running DVI and different monitors can give different EDIDs.
4) Rendering is setup identically on both machines in config. This was my problem. One machine set to rendering 60fps. other machine set to rendering 59.94. That was enough to throw the movie out. Set both to 60, and all was fine.

Hope it gives you something to work on.

Hi,

is the Clusterclock running correctly?
If you don't know how to check, just post a screenshot of the scene statistics.

How do you start the movies?

Götz

Hi,

Yes Clusternetwork clock are fine, the slave one is synchronised to the master
I'm working on a new way to buffer movies instead of instant launching
Will get back here with new feedback about playback synchronisation

Thanks,
Florian

Hi,

I tried again on my configuration, a "simple" one at the office for showroom purpose
here a movie to download : Video 1.wmv (177.1 Mo) http://f.laboiteaslides.fr/51213/
DSC_0111.JPG
you can notice a desync from 0:38
after i try to load some movies in another movie node (async on)

Is there someting i'm doing wrong ?

Devices : 2 vbox with firepro w5000
Output for each : dp1 to 3DP hub to 3 screens, dp2 to 1 screen
Screens are 1920x1080px

Simple Ventuz Render setup to take care of screen bezel
4 screen on the left are on 3.01, 4 on the right are on 3.02

Network : Netgear Prosafe Gigabit router

Sometimes master or slave make some stall on simple movie playback
Some stalls appear when :
- no action are submit (just ongoing playback)
- movie node is preloading (async on)

What i notice :
- when slave skip frame(s) during playback, it don't try to go back to sync
- when preload another movie node, it may stall (not accurate)
- on slave : clock from something switch form 3.01 to 3.02 very quickly (let 10 times then ok)

Notes:
1. delay can't be due tu DP hub because the delay is the same on 4 screens
2. vbox configuration is clean, ventuz to 4.06.01.31, running as vpr
