HTC Vive controllers

Post by craig » 16 Jan 2018, 11:21

Good morning fellow Ventuzians.

I'm experimenting with the HTC Vive VR headset today, and so far it's impressive how easy it's been to get a scene up and running using the features of 5.3 - amazing work by the Ventuz dev team!

However, I'm having an issue with the VR controllers. I just cannot get them to work in Ventuz. They are paired, functioning, and work in Steam VR applications. But, they are not being detected in either the sample scene in the Ventuz help or my own scenes.

I'm clearly doing something wrong, but I've no idea what. All advice gratefully received!

Regards,
Craig

you should add them to your scene and give the second one the ID 1

I’ve added the node for one of them and given it the ID of 0. This one has been identified by steam VR correctly. I’m not clear what else you mean by “add it to the scene”?

The demo scene doesn’t work for me either.

Cheers
Craig.

add a second one and change its ID from 0 to 1, so it is identified as a second one. Can you see the first one with your headset?

Re: HTC Vive controllers They dont work anymore!!!

So. Today I tried it myself after about a week or so. And guess what,
the controllers don't work anymore, they have "deactivated" on when looking at the output-properties.
Must have been one of those pesky auto-updates of either windows (10) or Steam.
Maybe some Venuziast can confirm this or lead us out of this darkness.
cheers.

It looks like my adventures in VR with Ventuz have come to an abrupt stop for now.

Glad to hear I'm not the only person with an issue, but not great that this might have broken someone's working production code....

Craig.

Hi all,

It seems that a Steam(VR) update brought some changes or bugs on the OpenVR API.
We did not change any VR related stuff in Ventuz for a longer time.
We are going to fix this but currently I cannot tell you when we are going to release an update.

Best Regards
Karol

Hi,
thanks for the info. Maybe restoring steam from a backup would help...
Has anyone done this before?

Same pbm in 2018 with Vive Controller. Maybe someone has an old version?
