Particle Stream Render Mesh Extruder with custom Path

Hey,
I was wondering why it's not possible to use customs paths with the Render Mesh Extruder Module of the Particle System. Only the Tube option is available. I would like to use this to create a lightweight wiggling band. Creating a Mesh for every particle it not very nice and generates a lot of moire. The Mesh Extruder would be the better solution from my point of view. At least it would be good to be able to modify the shape of the Extruder Module with X/Y Scale Rounding.
Maybe someone already has a workaround for this.
