Frame lock cards

Post by SimonPollock » 08 Apr 2014, 08:21

I'd like to build a 12 display video wall using two Firepro W600 cards with content created and presented with Ventuz software. I believe that I will have to use two machines with a W600 Eyefinity group setup up in each. What adaptor cards are recommended\compatible with Ventuz to frame lock the two machines?

Thanks, Simon

Hi,

which other than the AMD S400 do u know that works with the FirePro cards?

Addition: I'm not sure if the W600 supports a sync board at all.

Regards,

Götz

Thanks for feedback Götz,

I had a look at the S400 and, yeah, it doesn't appear to support the W600. The AMD website says to use two W9000 cards to drive up to 12 screens - the website also says that using only one system with multiple AMD FirePro cards, it is possible to create large display walls with 12 screens or more. However, I thought that the maximum size for an eyefinity group was six displays, so not sure the best hardware setup for 12 displays now.

Weird - in this video the AMD guy says that you can use the W600 with the S400 - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fLXCt0V7iLI and whenever I post a question on the AMD forum asking about using multiple W600 cards the posts disappear.

I would really like to know if I can sync multiple W600 cards - anyone done it?

Yes, he does say... but i dont even see a matching connector on the W600 for the S400 cables.

Also keep in mind that the W600 is not that powerful. Six monitors are a lot of pixels to render.

If 12 x 1280 x 720 is enough for your project, give a try to an 7970 or R9 280x / R9 290 (with Minimum one DVI duallink and 2 (mini)-dp Outputs.
Connect it to 3 datapath x4 using active duallink dp-Adapters.
Will work fine, only one machine, no cluster needed.

So for 12 outputs from a single machine, seems like two W9000's with an S400 could do the trick, if it's an AMD solution. Wonder what sort of machine performance I'd need to deliver 12x1080p - I'd imagine that the hard disk speed would be the critical factor - anyhow, that's another topic.

Thanks, Simon

Two graphic cards in one machine is not really doable with Ventuz, neither recommended, nor supported.

It starts with the problem of getting one large eyefinity group over both cards...
