Video with Alpha

Post by gooihup » 07 Jun 2012, 04:52

Hi all,

My client wants me to add various effects over a live video feed in our Ventuz Presentation, like falling snow, or a bouncing ball. The desired effects we can easily create using AE while maintaining the alpha channel (RBGA). However, what codec & container should I output to in order to have it run smoothly in Ventuz while still effectively utilizing the effect's alpha channel? I know Ventuz doesn't take AppleProRes, and while H.264 has worked well for me in the past, many online forums say H.264 does not support alpha channels.

FYI, project resolution is 6000x1000px as the presentation is played on 90-foot wide projection wall. I anticipate each effect will be 20-30 secs @ 30fps. File sizes might be a problem for uncompressed videos or image sequences.

Or is there a better way to achieve the desired effect?

Cheers!

Does this mean that you want to play a video in resolution of 6000x1000 px?
Quicktime Animation and DNxHD support alpha channel.

Yes,
I'm afraid that's true for the MovieClip Advanced node (I already issued a Bug ticket).
But in the Quicktime Movie node the Alpha channel is handled correctly :)

I guess this means I will have to use 32bit Ventuz?
