I am looking for a simple solution to detect if a button has been pressed or a relay closed. I did think about ripping the guts out of a keyboard and using a key node to detect when pressed.

Anyone have any experience of simple external hardware that I can interrogate possibly by the RS232 interface, or is there a more elegant solution using Midi to somehow detect the same?

Hi Peter,

I'd suggest a presentation remote of som kind, they are ussually sending keyboard commands or single letters.

Kensington has a load of them:

It may not be obvious to new users but Ventuz have made it very easy to find what key presses are coming in from external devices like the Kensington remote units. I envisaged having to go through key by key until one showed a key press.

All you have to do is leave the Windows Key node without a key assigned to it. Switch to the output ensuring that Monitor Values is switched on, and then you will see under KeyState, Key Code ,the key that the remote is activating!! Well done Ventuz team!!

Interestingly two remotes give different key outputs:

Kensington remote: Right button gives Pg Dn, Left button gives Pg Up, Stop button gives 'B' key.
Interspace Industries Microcue: Green button gives 'right', Red button gives 'left'', Black button gives 'B' key?
