Hi!

I'm examining the hardware market once again, and I've heard some rumors about someone in the community that have been using Ventuz with a DeltaCast card in a Thunderbolt PCI-E enclosure from Magma: http://www.magma.com/blog/introducing-e ... -expansion

Does anyone have any input on this, it looks like a really nice solution for broadcast work in the OB-field!

As I have understood things, there are no extra drivers neccessary, since the Tunderbolt connection act as a PCI-E connector. The drawback on windows as opposed to Mac systems is that you cannot hot-plug Thunderbolt devices. You have to boot up your system with the Thunderbolt equipment connected for windows to recognize it.

All this is theory for me, so any hands-on experience anyone out there have is really truly interesting!

All the best!

this makes ma a little bit pessimistic

The sleek design of the ExpressBox 1T matches elegantly with your Thunderbolt equipped Mac

I can confirm these thunderbolt docks and both the deltacast and blackmagic sdi card work on our PC and Macs(with bootcamp) work just fine. As stated you have to have them plugged in on boot to have them work and have to reboot if they get unplugged or the power on the doc is lost.

Thanks for the update!

I'm sorry I haven't followed up this post myself. I actually bought a Magma Expressbox 1T and a kick-ass gaming laptop from Asus (G750JX). I got this setup working with Ventuz (External Keying), but not at higher resolutions than 720P.

Can you run 1080i or 1080p with external keying on your Macs / Sonnet setup?

All the best,

Sam
