i am working on a project where i need softedge. in the config editor "use automatic edge generation" was enabled but there was no softedge. after disabling and reenabling it was swiched on.

Hi,

when you create a render setup, by default the shaping is turned off until you change sth. In the top left of the shaping editor you see buttons to turn shaping and edging on and off.
When you change sth it gets turned on. So I guess you didn't change sth before...

The reason why it's turned off is that people using key and fill killed their alpha channel when they just created a render setup without even touching the shaping.

When you shape sth you touch it anyway and then it gets activated. But it's true, for edges it's a bit strange. Let's see if we find a nice solution...

please see attached screenshot. this option was enabled by default but there was no softedge. after disabling and re enabling it softedge was on;)
