Why do you think its not possible? :)

just do it the other way around:

Create a gradient with alpha...
Get the String from the Gradient.. or hover with the mouse to get the formatting:

there you go :)

Just grabed the gradient string out of a gradient texture to see how the system manage the alpha stuff and it looks like this:
RGBA;c0:(0.7647059, 0.8901961, 0.9529412);c1:(0.145098, 0.5882353, 0.8078431);a0.1215686:(1);a0.7411765:(0.6235294)

The 'a' parameter defines the alpha value, i think.

ahh...

ok, not very intuitiv that we have rgba but can not enter a value like r,g,b,a ;)

attached a new scene where you can configure a point with rgba very easy ;)
