3d problem - Expanding Countries

Post by Marko » 24 Jun 2013, 14:22

Hi,
I intend to show the world wide volume of sales for a product.
The idea is to "take" the earth and expand the individual countries to represent their amounts of sales.

So I took for example italy and expanded it in C4d. The growing is represented through 25 growing objekts of italy in 1 second which become higher and higher until the biggest one reaches the amount of sales for Italy (see atachement).
I exported and imported it as an .obj! But in Ventuz the subset does not work. I already imported the animation of an sports shoe and that has worked fine.

No I idea what to do else - tried so many ways. If I import to ventuz with the "original hierarchy" modus in the import dialogue window I got the array-mistake like in this tread already described http://forum.ventuz.com/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=3040

Perhaps to abstract describtion - but, somebody with an idea?
Bye Marko

I have done a few election maps in the past similar to what you are trying to do although animating the scale of the extrusion in ventuz.
Normally I use the DirectX (.x) export for C4D as this is usually quite good at ironing out any issues when you import. Have you tried .x?

I never have much luck importing grouped objects so normally have to separate everything out which is a bit slow :(

@Joe:
Thank you. Didn´t know until now that an animation can be imported into Ventuz with .x - I made a quick try but I had no success. Neither with the whole animation nor with the "framed" one with it´s seperated 25 pieces.

@chriss0212:
Made quick country expand dummies here at notebook so I can upload it now. (C4d R14 Studio)
One is a raw version. The other a framed one.

Grmpfl´...one of my export tries was collada - with no luck. Perhaps the c4d-concept was the wrong one when I tried that out.
Thanks very much Christian!

Hey guys we currently do not support Collada 1.5 file format so stick to 1.4.
