System setup for using Ventuz

Post by Chris » 31 Jan 2013, 14:48

Hi All

There are a lot of forum posts about hardware configurations for Ventuz, but I can't find any regarding best Windows setup.

So here I am, starting a little post regarding system software set up ;)

Is a straight forward Windows install ok for running Ventuz?
Does the Windows set up need some 'tuning', if so any infomation on how?
Are there certain processes that you should make sure are not running on a windows installation, or services that can be turned off to gain better performance?
Should you turn off things like 'Aero' in Windows to keep graphics down to a basic level?

Any other tips you can give us regarding getting the best from a system software set up?

Many Thanks
Chris

Ok basically a straight forward windows installation is a good starting point but there are a few things to care about.
  • Windows automatic updates should be turned off. There is nothing worse than a running production system crashing through a windows update.
  • It is recommended to disable Windows Notification icons because they can steel the focus in Fullscreen mode and minimize the Ventuz Presenter. A short howto can be found here
  • Change the Power Plan from Balanced to Maximum Performance.
  • Check your Firewall rules. Take care Ventuz Designer and Ventuz Presenter are different applications and therefore need seperated rules!! So a project that is getting data in the Designer can not work in the Presenter.
  • Disable UAC
That's what I can remeber so far. There are for sure a million more tweaks people use to get more stable system so I'am excited.

Cheers!

I would also deactivate all Windows Sounds and deactivate Aero on Windows 7.

maybe....hav not realy tested...it is a good thing to kill the explorer.exe. after killing the explorer you have no more gui on the screen and so nothing could pop up :-)

take a look here:
http://www.groovypost.com/howto/microso ... -easy-way/

or to stop use a batch file with this command:

@echo off
taskkill /f /im explorer.exe

greetz
