Video-Node and Image-Filters

Hi dear Ventuz Team, I´d like to be able to apply filters as given in Image-filters to the Video-Node like ColorCorrection, RGB Brightness etc...
There is also a big need for more advanced VideoControlls in the Movie-Node. If you could implement the ability of contolling the MoviePosition by a float even Midi Timecode should be possible. After having a Cue-Section inside the Node there already must be a feature to seek movie positions -so why Timeline-Movie-Controll is so complicated in Ventuz ?
Is your work on the Shaders, ChromaKey etc growing? Are there any news ?
Thanks fichl

Hi fichl
The final answer will come from the Ventuz team but here's what I can tell you: The available image filters in Ventuz are not real-time capable. They are implemented on the CPU, that's why you can use them only on images before you create textures from them.
Nevertheless, standard rgb adjustment (Hue/Saturation/Brightness) is very easy to implement as a shader (about 3 lines of shader code). So maybe the team has a free minute to add this as it would indeed be a very useful feature.
As long as there is no optimized video playback available in Ventuz there's no way to do cues or speed adjustments in real time. That's why external sync of videos is not possible until now. If you want to slave sync a video you need to adjust its playback speed.
I know a similar product that uses a combination of DirectShow, VMR9, DXVA and customized filters. Don't worry about these tech terms but here is what counts: That software is able to play and sync up to four (!) full HD video streams at once. You see that there is still plenty of room for optimizations in Ventuz.
Cheers, Ralph

Hi Ralph,
Which software can sync 4 HD Streams? could it be controlled by timecode? I'm very interested... Don't be shy to write it here, it could be good to know for ventuz, that is it possible...
bye clad

Hi guys,
That's not a secret; the system mentioned is the Hippotizer Media Server. It's one of the best selling products in its field, mostly because of the high video playback quality which is recognized as state-of-the-art. It offers super slow motion with frame blending, and multiple systems can be synchronized easily. However, the Hippotizer is not an authoring solution like Ventuz, it's a playback server offering multiple layers of video playback and various real time effects including screen shaping and edge blending.
Cheers, Ralph

and in the range of media servers dont forget:
maxxedia, PandorasBox, MXWendler. So Ventuz.....please take a look at the realtime features, DMX/Artnet control, realtime color correction, and the most important thing: synched playback of movies :-)
You are right that the system cant be compared to ventuz but we miss a lot of thes features in a avent based software like ventuz
Geetz and happy christmas days
Chriss
...........and don't give up :-)

A 'Hippotizer HD' can play 4 HD streams simultaneously, controlled by timecode. As framefactory said, playback features several options such as dynamic speed change, inter-frameblending for super-slowmotion, or hickless change between forwards/backwards playing and not a single framedrop or delay or hick when changing between different clips to be played. The engine also allows to add a lot of effects (typically pixelshaders or simple 3d scenes) per layer or in the master layer.
All rendering parameters can be preprogrammed in a timeline, and playlists are usually triggered from an external system (e.g. over DMX, from a Lighting Desk).
Multiple Hippotizers can be connected over ethernet and the whole Hippo-cluster can be controlled remotely through a handy GUI.
Unlike Ventuz, the Hippotizer Product Range is indeed not exactly useful as an Authoring Solution, as the development was driven by the requirements of different markets. However, the underneath technology is obviously quite similar.
Just playing 2-4 Layers of HD simultaneusly with DirectShow is not such a big thing if you don't head for interframe-blending, don't need dynamic speed control, accept some accidential hicks, framedrops, or delays when changing clips or when starting the playback. That's what DirectShow IS and does for you. If you want more, you need endless patience, money and time to analyze and overcome all the tricky bits.
Media playback IS the most important minor matter of future Authoriting Solutions.
